Estados Unidos.- Los habitantes de La Florida están en alerta máxima por la llegada del huracán Michael que en las últimas horas incrementó su fuerza a categoría 4 provocando oleadas de hasta 4 metros de altura y se espera toque tierra en el “Panhandle” o en el “Big Bend” de Florida.

En un tuit desesperado, el gobernador de Florida, Rick Scott, emitió una última advertencia a los pobladores para evacuar las zonas cercanas a la costa y reubicarse en localidades más altas.

Después de que Michael incrementara rápidamente su fuerza sobre las aguas del Golfo de México al pasar el martes de categoría 2 a 3 y alcanzar el nivel 4 en las primeras horas del miércoles, el presidente Donald Trump declaró estado de emergencia en Florda y liberó ayuda federal para complementar las respuestas estatales y locales ante desastres.
De acuerdo al más reciente reporte del Centro Nacional de Huracanes, citado por Reuters, Michael se ubicaba a unos 160 kilómetros al sudoeste de Apalachicola, en Florida, con vientos máximos sostenidos de 220 kilómetros por hora.
Las autoridades advirtieron que los vientos causados por Michael podrían generar daños considerables en techos y muros y arrastrar objetos pesados.
Al menos 500 mil personas han sido evacuadas y se espera que Michael deje caer grandes cantidades de lluvia sobre los estados de Florida, Alabama y Georgia, además de Carolina del Norte y Carolina del Sur, que aún se recuperan de las inundaciones que provocó el paso del huracán Florence, y en Virginia.
